Stuffed. Addressed. Stamped…. and into the hands of the postmaster. Today made it real… What I consider my formal announcement to my family and friends afar, the letters are on their way. Amid my hesitation to announce my journey online, I wanted to send my Happy New Years cards to those that I love dearest. Since I’ve kept a lot of preparations under wraps until now, today is kinda a big day. I also purchased my satellite phone that will keep me in contact with everyone back home. As I work to get this site where I want it, I realize that it really isn’t my forte and that sometimes I need to ask for assistance along the way. (I’m learning.) I will continue to work on my gear list as I’ve never been a nitty gritty detailed person, but gear seems to be excite me and it always comes up in conversation when you’re on a trail. If you’re truly interested in whats in my pack, keep checking that link until I leave. I’m sure I’ll change a few things as I get closer to my start date. And as far as the satellite phone goes theres a link for that as well (if I did it correctly). Its different from the Spot device that I have carried on previous hikes, so I’m eager to learn its capabilities when I head out for a training hike.
I had lunch with one of my favorites today; Arod. Thanks for our chat. I couldn’t ask for better friends. Through all of our life challenges we learn to be closer, to be more open, to love more, to love in ways we didn’t think were possible, to be supportive, to lean on, to cry sometimes as I often do. Seriously, I don’t know what life would be like without all the great people that I share it with.
Another day gone by, 76 to go.
